This Material Girl Likes to Cherish Leather
Madonna Louise Ciccone (born August 16, 1958) is an American singer-songwriter, actress, author, director, entrepreneur, philanthropist and numerous other things. She burst to fame in the early 1980s with singles such as "Like a Virgin," "Into the Groove," and "Papa Don't Preach," and since then has capitalized on her fame in numerous different venues.
Madonna, originally from Bay City, Michigan, is of Italian and French-Canadian descent. She came out of the New York club scene and eventually found a record producer, Mark Kamins, who found her a record deal with Sire Records. Her first few singles were club hits, then reached a broader audience with "Holiday." Her album "Madonna" was her true breakthrough in 1984, with numerous singles that peaked high on the charts.
Reaching a career singing peak with the controversial album "Like a Prayer," Madonna branched out into film. Madonna was a music video pioneer, so she had extensive acting experience even before her first film. She had a big hit with "Desperately Seeking Susan," but "Shanghai Surprise" was a major failure. She tried her hand at erotic romance in "Body of Evidence" without much success. Years later, she won a Golden Globe for Best Actress for "Evita." Many of Madonna's tours are legendary. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008. Madonna is a major brand name for her, and she is a major worldwide celebrity.
Madonna is as famous for her high-profile relationships as anything else. She famously was married to Sean Penn in the 1980s, a relationship which ended amid weird allegations of Penn tying her up. Another relationship, with backup dancer Carlos Leon, led to her daughter. More recently, Madonna was married to British director Guy Ritchie.
Madonna always has been a style icon. She helped popularize the trend toward vintage clothing that incorporated fetishistic aspects. Madonna always has worn a lot of leather, mostly black leather jackets, boots and occasionally caps, and every so often makes a point of being photographed in full-out leather dominatrix gear.

Madonna NowMadonna, of course, remains a titan in the world of music and fashion. Several of the above photos are recent as well, that's why it's important sometimes to see the reality as well the artifice.
Below, a couple of photos showing Madonna as she really looks, which is just fine, but not the same as artfully posed studio shots.
