Rock guru Kim Fowley put together an all-female rock band in 1975, and Lita was the choice for lead guitar. They named the band "The Runaways," and its success is considered a seminal moment in rock history.

Playing up their nubile good looks, the girls were an immediate hit and toured throughout the remainder of the 1970s. Differences over what type of music to play led to the band's breakup in April 1979.

Setting out on a solo career, Lita released "Out for Blood" in 1983 and "Dancin' on the Edge" the following year. Ford began amping up the leather sexuality, and soon she began recouping her fans. She became a top tour act of the late '70s with her sweat-drenched leather girl act going over well.

Lita took some time off in the '90s to raise her two sons, then returned in the 2000s with a vengeance. "Wicked Wonderland" in 2009 did not set the world on fire, but fans loved it. "Living Like a Runaway" in 2012 was more of a return to the good old times, though it did not chart either.
